It's not a secret to anyone that the Nivea Company is one of the most popular cosmetics companies in the world. But, not everyone knows the history of the company, in other words, how it began.

The history of Nivea began in 1911 with the creation of skin cream with Eucerit, which was very popular with the customer. The owner of Nivea was a German company with Beiersdorf O Troplowitz as its head man. You will ask, who proposes that name for the company and what does it mean? And, if you open up a Latin dictionary, you will find the word, nivius, which means snow white. Oscar Tropolowitz named the company Nivea and it was successful. Since the company wanted to continue with the idea of a cream, chemist Liftschultzand dermatologist Paul Unna created a new cream that contained enabled oil, wool fat, and water mixed together which they called beautiful wax.

During World War I the Nivea company had hard times because cosmetics were considered to be luxury products. But, the work didn't stop. The company didn't stop its advertising and tried to create new products to meet the demands of the people. The workers at the company tried to follow women's tastes and moods especially. They knew that the idea beauty at that time was far from the aristocratic standards of pale and lifeless skin. So, they proposed very energetic and sunny Nivea cosmetics for activity and health. This idea made crowds of people become interested in Nivea.

In the 1930's, the Nivea company produced new products, like shaving cream, shampoo for all kinds of hair and facial toner. Therefore, the company became popular with both women and men. The main theme was outdoor activities expressed in a slogan entitled, "for sports and home."

During World War Two, in the advertising of the Nivea Company, Elly Heuss-Knapp was involved and honestly, that was good fortune for the company. Only this type of woman could feel the needs and demands so greatly. Thanks to this woman, this company didn't obey the Nazi ideas and ideology. It was Elly's idea to have the Nivea Company contain the colors blue and white. The ads were full of energy and sun. However, the company still went through hard times because getting connections through other countries was difficult then. The problem was solved in the 1950's when the faces of happiness returned to the people. The ideal woman became very feminine again.

In the 1960's, the idea of leisure time and active rest was on the rise and this fact didn't go unnoticed by Nivea. The company tended to start making body cosmetics.

In the 1980's, the Nivea company become very widespread. Some new cosmetic lines began to exist. There were decorative cosmetics and innovations in skincare. Today, Nivea body cosmetics have facial care, bath and shower cosmetics, hair, care, baby care, cosmetics for men, and sun care products.
